Astilbe simplicifolia

The winner of the Green Retail Award for the Best Novelty is Astilbe simplicifolia ‘Pretty in Pink’ submitted by Compass plants B.V. together with Hans van der Meer Potplanten, both from Nieuwe Wetering. The award was presented on the first day of GROEN-Direkt’s Summer Days. A total of eleven novelties had been submitted for this inspection.

The jury was very enthusiastic about Astilbe simplicifolia ‘Pretty in Pink’ – an attractively flowering plant with dark stems and two-toned – pale and dark pink – looser plumes. The nicely proportioned plant is a little larger in terms of foliage and inflorescence than, say, Astilbe simplicifolia ‘Sprite’ and ‘Hennie Graafland’. This enchanting look makes the novelty a welcome addition to the range, said the KVBC jury.

Ten plants inspected

A total of eleven plants had been submitted for this second summer edition of the inspection for the ‘Best Novelty’ Green Retail Award of PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt. Ten of them were eventually evaluated. In addition to the silver medal for the Best Novelty, the jury awarded silver medals to two other plants: Lavandula intermedia ‘Tesseract’ (SENSATIONAL!) and Hydrangea macrophylla ‘HORE9311′ (DOPPIO FREDO). Five plants were awarded a bronze medal.

Plants submitted for inspection in the ‘Best Novelty’ category are evaluated by expert inspection committees of the Koninklijke Vereniging voor Boskoopse Culturen (KVBC; Royal Boskoop Horticultural Society).

Along with GROEN-Direkt’s Autumn Fair, PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt, the Green Retail Fair, is the ideal place for suppliers and everyone else professionally involved in the green sector to meet one another. The fair also pays lots of attention to novelties and innovations. The next edition will take place on 21 and 22 August 2024. The fair will take place in and around GROEN-Direkt’s hall at the International Trade Centre in the Dutch town of Hazerswoude/Boskoop.
