Bob Walter to visit Scope’s Thorngrove Garden Centre in Gillingham

North Dorset MP Bob Walter is in Gillingham on Friday, 7th February, to visit Scope?s Thorngrove Garden Centre.?He will meet staff and hear more about what this charity-owned centre is doing to support local people with disabilities.

At the invitation of the national charity and local manager, Caroline Bottomley, Mr Walter returns to Thorngrove to take a tour of the garden centre and see how service users are getting involved in local community activities.

He will also have the opportunity to hear firsthand how they feel about the introduction of Personal Independence Payments.

As part of supporting disabled people to live more independently, the service also organises trips in the community to the gym and to Wincanton sports ground, all of which has made a huge difference to service users? social and team-working skills, not to mention their health and fitness.

Mr Walter said: ?I look forward to meeting with Thorngrove Centre users and staff to discuss some of the issues they face in their day to day lives in person.

?Ensuring disabled people are able to live as independently as possible remains a key priority and I know the Government is committed to ensuring they get the support they need, while enabling them to have a central part in Britain?s economic recovery?.
