Tong Garden Centre in Bradford has won the Retail Company of the Year category of the British HR Awards.
Organised by employee insight platform New Possible, the British HR Awards aim to discover and celebrate the individuals, teams and suppliers with a high-performing HR function.
“Our work family is at the heart of everything we do at Tong Garden Centre,” said Neil Barwise-Carr, head of people and culture. “We are passionate about our workplace culture and providing a great place to work and continually strive to be the best employer in the UK.
“Our people and culture team of six work hard to create an environment where everyone can reach their potential, so we’re delighted that this dedication has been recognised with a national award.”
Tong Garden Centres is one of Yorkshire’s largest independent garden centres, occupying a 19-acre site. It is part of the Yorkshire Garden Centres (YGC) group that also owns Tingley Garden Centre and the former Stephen H Smith’s Garden Centres in Otley and Harden, Bingley.
Nate Harwood, founder of New Possible and a judge for the awards, says “competition proved to be especially tough” this year. Other judges included representatives from Shelter, Monzo, Apple and Iceland Foods, and winners were announced at a ceremony on 22 March in central London.
