Celebration of all things apple at buckingham garden centre

A celebration of one of the UK?s most popular fruits will see experts, chefs and artisan producers come to a garden centre.

Buckingham Garden Centre is holding its Apple Weekend, on September 27 and 28, from 10am to 4pm each day.

Top fruit specialist and RHS judge Gerry Edwards is the special expert guest over the weekend, offering advice and helping people identify the apple varieties in their gardens. Those who want advice from Gerry should bring along no more than two apple idents per person and if possible, a sample of young shoot with foliage with each of the fruit.

There will also be a display of apple and crab apple fruits from around the local community, including fruits from the orchard at Stowe Landscape Gardens and the Wolverton Road Allotments in Stony Stratford.

Fruit expert Fritz De Zutter will be able to help answer questions on growing, training, rootstocks and selecting varieties.

Local young chef Christopher Wright will be returning with a couple of culinary delights ? a sweet and a savoury apple dish. Chris will be demonstrating these over both days of the weekend at 11am and 2.30pm.

The Buckingham branch of The Beekeepers Association will be on hand to answer honey and bee-related questions and there will be a talk by Medical Detection Dogs, based in Great Horwoo,d at 2pm each day.

There will be cheese from Hertfordshire based Wobbly Bottom Farm, home produced Evershed?s Cider from Odell in Bedfordfordshire, local apple fruits to buy from New Creation Farm orchards, and Padbury-based Caramba Oils.

There will be tombola to help raise money for the garden centre?s charity Breast Cancer Care together with plenty of entertainment for the children including close-up magic, balloon sculpting and face painting.
