Chelsea

A Chelsea Flower Show garden has been rebuilt at the Bradford Garden Centre that donated its plants.

The plant team at Tong Garden Centre sourced and supplied over 600 plants for LAND, a multi-sensory garden and textile installation and buyer, Steve Smith is delighted that it will now feature as a second show garden at the Tong Lane centre. He said: “We were delighted to be invited to be the plant partner for LAND and it will be great to have a little piece of Chelsea back here at Tong.

“Not only does it give people a chance to see a garden that they might not otherwise get to see, but it’s a great way to recycle the elements of the garden and minimise waste.”

LAND was a collaboration between founder of The Plant Room, Zosia Berkieta-Lewis, who lives in Saltaire and Wakefield textile designer, Laura Slater. The pair were invited by RHS Chelsea to create a garden at the iconic show after organisers saw the original LAND installation at the London Design Festival last year. Tong was recommended to them for plants by TV gardener, Katie Rushworth, who also has a show garden at Tong. The garden was inspired by Piet Oudolf’s naturalistic style and included grasses and plants to create prairie-style movement.

Tong’s Marketing Manager, Jo Dales is delighted that the garden’s coming back to Tong: “It’s fitting and fabulous that a garden that was made possible due the generosity of Yorkshire and northern businesses should be re-sited here in Yorkshire. We’re looking forward to sharing this little piece of Chelsea with our customers and our community.”

Tong Garden Centre employs 150 people and is one of Yorkshire’s biggest independent garden centres with 110,000 square feet of retail space.
