The UK’s leading garden centre retailer, Dobbies Garden Centres, announces a positive start to the first weekend open in Scotland, with customers making a beeline for the wide variety of plants, compost, pots and other gardening products available.
Following updated guidance from the Scottish Government that garden centres may open, Dobbies opened its 12 Scottish stores on Friday 29 May. There have been queues of customers each day since opening, with social distancing measures in place both inside and outside the stores.
Graeme Jenkins, CEO for Dobbies, said: “It has been an excellent first few days, as we reopened our stores across Scotland. We limited the amount of people in each store, to ensure the safety of team members and customers – and also to ensure our customers had a pleasant shopping experience. I would like to thank all team members for creating a welcoming atmosphere.
“Customers adhered to the social distancing measures in place, and these have worked well across the full estate. Customers were most interested in buying plants, compost and gardening products as they are keen to spend time in their gardens this Spring.
“The next development in Scotland will be the launch of our takeaway menu including hot and cold drinks, soups, toasties, panini, selected bakery items and cream tea from 2 June. Club Plus members will be able to redeem their hot drink credits and birthday treat vouchers.”
