A Cirencester garden centre has thrown its support behind a campaign to raise ?150,000 for a major refurbishment of a Cotswolds school. Dobbies Garden World has named the North Cerney Big Project ? which is working to raise the funds to build a new assembly hall at the village?s primary school ? as its local charity of the year.
The campaign launched in February and has so far raised more than ?40,000 and is due to hear this week if a bid for funding from Gloucestershire County Council?s Local Education Authority has been successful.
Project committee leader Jennifer Forde said she was delighted the scheme had won the support of Dobbies.
“We want to extend a huge thank you to them for helping us to continue to raise cash for this project,” she said. “We are looking forward to working with Dobbies throughout the year to raise awareness of our project.”
Throughout the year Dobbies will run a number of fundraising events and collection tins will be placed at every checkout.
The garden centre?s community champion Annabel Lewis said the project had stood out because of the large amount of money it had managed to raise in such a short space of time.
?You could tell they were hungry for it and we were really impressed,? she said.
