A DEFIBRILLATOR has been installed at an Ivybridge garden centre.
The device, which delivers an electric shock to someone suffering a cardiac arrest, has been placed in the Endsleigh Garden Centre by South West Ambulance Service Foundation Trust following an incident with a customer.
Marketing manager Justin Avery said: ?One of our first aiders at the store had a fairly intense call one day. She was called to help an elderly gentleman who was in a bad way and he very nearly passed away in the store.
?SWASFT recognised the great first aid that had been carried out on this gentleman. The family were appreciative of our efforts as well.
?We certainly have a requirement for a defibrillator in the store. We get a lot of visitors and we are a big destination so it just made sense.?
Several members of staff at the garden centre have carried out their first aid at work training and work on a rota system so if an incident occurs there is always someone on hand. The first aiders have now also been trained to use the defibrillator.
