Expert Gardening Advice: New college course for gardeners

Green-fingered residents have the chance to shape up their gardens for 2014 with the help of expert gardening advice.

East Durham College?s Houghall Campus will be starting an amateur gardening course tomorrow.

The course will be taught at the Durham City campus by leading horticulturist Mike Hirst, a member of Houghall Horticultural Society?s committee and the Institute of Horticulture, as well as being a fellow of the Linnean Society of London, the world?s oldest biological society.

He said: ?This course offers a wide range of topics to cater for the keen amateur gardener. It aims to offer advice and help on how to successfully grow healthy plants, with the emphasis on an informal and entertaining teaching style.?

The course starts tomorrow and runs every Wednesday for 10 weeks, from 10am until noon, at the Houghall Campus. Taking part costs ?160.
