Family-run garden centre ‘targeted’ by thieves

A family-run garden centre has been left reeling after thieves stole ?30,000 worth of goods in a night time raid.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the goods was stolen from Tree Tops Nursery in Over Peover in the early hours of yesterday morning, Tuesday, November 26.

The crime took place shortly after 3 am at the garden centre on Holmes Chapel Road, with thieves stealing tens of thousands of pounds worth of hydroponic supplies and equipment as well as Christmas decorations.

The owner, Cheryl Hurst, alerted the police after the alarm was activated at the nursery and police are now establishing what exactly has been stolen and following a number of lines of enquiry.

They are also studying CCTV footage which recorded activity at the time of the incident.

Cheryl, who runs the family-owned business, said: ?It?s just terrible especially coming up to Christmas. We feel that we have been targeted.

?Taking the Christmas decorations was the icing on the cake.?

Cheryl, who employs two full-time members and one part-time member of staff at the centre, said that the thieves gained access by taking the glass from a window.

The nursery stocks a wide variety of goods, including plants, trees and flowers, but it was the hydroponic equipment that was targeted by the thieves.

Hydroponics describes the method of soilless gardening and the use of hydroponic kits lead to increased yields, faster growth rates and year round gardening.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: ?At 3.21 am an alarm was activated at TreeTops Nursery in Holmes Chapel Road in Over Peover.

?The key holder alerted police and officers are now establishing exactly what has been stolen and following a number of lines of enquiry.

?Anyone with information about the crime should contact Knutsford Neighbouring Policing Unit on 101 quoting the incident number 50 of November 26 2013.
