Fermoy’s Garden Centre honoured with a Platinum Medal

Fermoy’s Garden Centre in Newton Abbot was honoured with a Platinum Medal for Best Stand at the Devon County Show.

Staff and the 25 local schools involved were delighted to beat off some big names from within the horticultural industry?to be awarded the top accolade.

Sarah Dumont, Fermoy’s spokesman said: “We were very honoured to be presented with the Platinum Medal. Our stand did look amazing?, thanks to the efforts from all of the schools who worked so hard to make their entries look so fantastic this year.”

Fermoy’s invited South Devon schools to enter its ‘Garden In a Recycled Container’ competition and gave each school compost, seeds and plants to start them all off.

The rest was up to each school and they came up with some very inventive containers in which to grow?their gardens.

Sarah said: ” We are always amazed at the things the schools come up with and this year they excelled themselves. We had several wheelbarrows, prams and buckets but along side that was a pair of legs, a kitchen sink and even an old toilet.

“We love to work with schools and were delighted to present the top three schools with garden vouchers?to spend in their school allotments this year.”
