A garden centre is recruiting two REINDEER walkers

A garden centre is looking for two new members of staff to help during the busy Christmas period – to walk their reindeer.

Garsons in Titchfield, near Fareham, Hants, is recruiting two full-time reindeer carers to help with the rush this Christmas.

The reindeers will form the centrepiece of the garden centre’s festive display.

Successful applicants to the job will walk the reindeer in a paddock, feed them and introduce customers to them.

Ben Thompson, a director at the firm, said a couple of people could be employed.

He said: “It’s a bit more unusual than your average Christmas temp job.

“It is going to be a magical experience. We need some quite special staff to help us.”

Mr Thompson added: “We are looking for someone who is particularly friendly with animals and customer-minded.

“We will give training in terms of the animal care.

“We are known for Christmas time, for our trees and decorations but from last year we went the whole way and had the reindeer as well.”

The animals are being hired from a specialist farm in Reading, Berks.

Staff who take on the role will go to the farm and get animal welfare training.

Successful applicants will work between November 17 and Christmas Eve.

Previous animal-handling experience is not required but is advantageous.
