Garden centre website films hit younger audience

GARDEN centres looking to revamp or create e-commerce websites to sell their plants and products to a wider audience can now take advantage of a video service from Floramedia (July, 2014).

The company?s instructional gardening footage provides website content and guidance to consumers, which in turn boosts sales and helps reach a younger audience.

Nick Mathias, Managing Director at Floramedia, which is located in Colchester, explained: ?We?ve noticed that more and more garden centres are now looking at creating a greater online presence. If they have an e-commerce site already many are looking to re-vamp it to maximise on sales or for those that don?t offer this service they are creating sites this year to be able to capitalise on a greater geographical market.

?Video plays an important role in helping novice gardeners feel confident enough to have a go and we feel it links well with the HTA?s new ?It Starts with a Pot? campaign. It is designed to show people that gardening does not have to be complicated but that it can be straightforward and fun, which is what our videos do too.

?The campaign idea was one of a number of concepts to come from the Garden Industry Marketing Board (GIMB) for an overarching industry wide campaign aimed at consumers in their 30s and 40s who are not currently heavily engaged in gardening and/or garden product purchasing. Video is a great tool for encouraging engagement and we?re keen to back this HTA campaign.?

Each piece of footage runs between 60 and 90 seconds and is also appropriate for garden centres to play on TV screens in-store too.

Nick added: ?Video is a vital component in terms of current and future communication channels between garden centres and other retailers and their potential and existing customers.

?Our objective is to provide information to consumers to encourage them to embrace gardening. We offer compact instructional films on everything from planting bulbs in a pot or garden to detailed instructional videos, such as how to plant a perennial container or hanging basket. We also offer inspirational films, for example about flowering tulips or amaryllis.?

Floramedia can also make a bespoke film for garden centres by adding a special voiceover or company logo.

Floramedia has one of the UK?s largest range of stock plant labels with more than 10,000 to choose from.
