GCA conference: Beach, Bingo and Boogie

Garden centre and horticultural industry staff are this month being asked to sign up for a fundraising event being held at the GCA conference in January next year.

The Beach, Bingo and Boogie event will take place on Sunday, January 26 at the Hilton Blackpool Hotel to raise money for Greenfingers, which creates gardens at children?s hospices nationwide.

Iain Wylie, interim Chief Executive of the GCA, explained: ?To tie in with our seaside location for the conference, this year?s Greenfingers Challenge Cup will have a beach theme and will see a team of garden centre staff go head-to-head with a team of suppliers.

?The competition will include beach games, such as volleyball and cricket, followed by traditional seaside fish and chips and an evening of bingo. We?ll round off the night with a boogie.

?Last year our fundraising event took place in the form of the GCA Olympics, which were a huge success and great fun for all who took part. We hope just as many people sign up to participate in Beach, Bingo and Boogie.?

Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Anyone wishing to sponsor a beach game, round of bingo or set of t-shirts for the competitors should email Pat Adams, GCA Administrator, via pat@gca.org.uk.

Iain continued: ?You don?t need to sponsor an event to take part, we?re just looking for as many people as possible to sign up and participate.

?Guy Topping, Managing Director of Barton Grange Garden Centre will be leading the garden centre team and Danny Adamson, Managing Director of William Sinclair will be leading the suppliers or associates team. The team that gets the most points overall will win the Greenfingers Challenge Cup.

?To register your interest for taking part in the Beach, Bingo and Boogie, please email Pat. If you are unable to attend during the afternoon but would like to join us for fish and chips and the evening events, please book via our website: www.gca.org.uk.?

Greenfingers was launched in November 1998 by a group of volunteers drawn from all sectors of the gardening industry.

Growers, plant breeders, retailers, manufacturers and a host of gardening journalists and celebrities have willingly contributed materials, time and expertise to create gardens at children?s hospices around the UK.

The GCA annual conference will take place from January 26 until 29, 2014 at the Hilton Blackpool Hotel. To book a place, please visit the members? area on the GCA website via www.gca.org.uk.
