Trelawney Garden Centre in Wadebridge has been my family’s life work and passion for the last 40 years. In 1970 my father had just sold his village grocery shop in Egloshayle, only a mile from us now and had an idea of growing some fruit and vegetables to sell by the roadside in his retirement.
Dad’s idea of Trelawney being a quiet life went out of the window when I left school in 1973 and joined him! Shortly afterwards, David Symons who had been working for us at weekends also left school and between us all we created one of the first garden centres in the county.
With the support of our wives, both running major departments within the centre, and of our great team, many of whom have been with us since the early days, we have continually strived to keep our business at the forefront of garden centre retailing in country, proudly earning many industry awards on the way.(The latest being ‘The Best Plant Area in the Wales & West Region’ October 2014)
Our commitment and vision for the future of the company has always been fuelled by the support that our customers have generously shown and you have all become part of our extended Trelawney family. Thank you.
However, for us, retailing is getting more challenging and we feel that our beloved garden centre could thrive and move up another level with investment and professional management. We are delighted to announce that we have found the perfect company to do this. The Blue Diamond Group will take ownership of Trelawney Garden Centre in Wadebridge and our yet to be developed site at Probus from November 1st.
I am happy to let you know that the Trelawney name will stay; the train track will stay, as will all our fantastic staff. ?Your Trelawney Card will continue to reward you with free coffee and other benefits. Obviously changes will occur over time, but rest assured the Trelawney that you and my family love will not turn in to a faceless high street name, but flourish and bloom as well as any of our award winning plants!!!
Thank you for your friendship, support and custom over the years.
David & Helen Danning and David & Helen Symons and families.
