In 1983 Kevin Holmes attended an interview with Warren Haskins for a YTS apprenticeship at the?Haskins Garden Centre that many will remember was originally at Tricketts Cross in Ferndown.? He got the job starting as Retail Assistant.? His 30 years with the company has seen many changes and has now been celebrated.? Julian Winfield, the Chief Executive of the company that, since Kevin joined, has relocated its Ferndown Centre to the current site at Longham, and expanded to own four prime garden centres in southern England, congratulated Kevin on his long and loyal service.
?When Kevin joined the company it employed less than 50 people and had a turnover of ?80,000.? We now exceed ?31 million with a payroll of 550 people,? said Julian Winfield.
Kevin, 46 from West Parley, now Outdoor Manager says that over the years the demands from customers has changed very little: ?They seek choice and quality, advice and horticultural knowledge to support their own ability to research on-line.? Working with a wide range of plants and products has ensured that you never get bored.? There is always something new to learn every season.?
Directors, including Chairman Warren Haskins, took Kevin who is the company?s longest serving team member for a celebration lunch and funded a new laptop private use at home.
