Ladies day at The Fig and Olive Restaurant at Coppice Garden Centre

A Royal occasion was held at a popular eatery in support of a cancer charity that helps out many people in the royal town.

The Sutton Coldfield Cancer Support Centre organised a ladies day at The Fig and Olive Restaurant at Coppice Garden Centre in Middleton coinciding with Royal Ascot.

The Ladies Day Luncheon involved a ‘delicious’ meal, a drink of bubbly and all the horse racing action played on a big screen. In addition a raffle was held bringing in ?650 and ticket sales brought in ?800 for the Lindridge Road-based charity that helps cancer sufferers and their families.

Emma Oliveira, who is manager at the restaurant said: “We are so very proud to have hosted the Ladies Day Luncheon for the Cancer support centre,Sutton Coldfield. When Pat Brighton first approached us to get involved with their Annual Ladies lunch we were delighted to be able to support such an important Local charity. Having lost my Dad to cancer 18 months ago I feel delighted to be able to give something back to the charity that provided me and my family with the support and kindness that we needed at such a difficult time.

“The support from our suppliers for raffle prizes has been wonderful and the amount raised has made this a very successful?day.”

The Cancer Support Centre is a ‘very calm relaxed and supportive place to visit’, but it requires ?120,000 a year to provide its facilities?so fundraising days such as the Ladies Ascot day are vital to keep it running.

Fundraising trustee with The Cancer Support Centre, Pat Brighton, said: “Everyone had a brilliant time dressing up for the occasion. The ladies enjoyed watching the races very much. Due to the generosity of everyone on the day an amazing amount of money was raised ?1450 which will be used to provide clients?in the local area and their families Complimentary therapies, group activities such as Yoga, Meditation, relaxation, singing,art, craft group and much more all free of charge and a place to come to for support and help at any time.

“A huge thank you to Emma Oliveira and all her staff for providing such a fantastic day which everyone enjoyed, the staff looked after us so well and entered into the days activities.”
