LOFA increase revenue by 36% and outperforms garden furniture market

Annual research by LOFA, the Leisure and Outdoor Furniture Association, shows that its members represent half the garden furniture market, of which grew by 18% in 2014 to ?1.15bn.

However, they outperformed the sector, increasing revenue by 36%. Accessories performed best with sales up 84%. Barbecues, however, managed a mere 12% increase.

The survey also shows that more than half the shoppers carried out research before their purchase, most commonly (91%) at a DIY store. 54% look in a supermarket, 53% look on line and 42% go to a garden centre.

But garden centres claim only 10% of sales. Online retailers take the biggest share (27%), followed by DIY stores (23%) and department stores (24%).

50% say that it is important that their purchase matches existing furniture.
