A Newhaven school is all set to begin its new outdoor venture thanks to a local business. Paradise Park Garden Centre donated tools and equipment, including gloves, to Denton Primary School for its new Forest School.

The initiative was started by deputy headteacher Jon Kettle.

Mark Gilbert, commercial director at the centre, said: ?It was a delight to see the children?s happy faces when I visited the school to hand over the equipment.

?They are very excited about their horticultural activities and I wish them well.?

Meanwhile, it was a glorious day for the contestants of Newhaven in Bloom 2018, sponsored by Paradise Park.

Among the highlights was a spectacular living wall and living garden seat, from the green-fingered residents of Ellis Gordon Court, as well as superb front gardens and pot displays galore.

?It really was a riot of colour and ingenuity?, said Mark Curtis plant manager at the Avis Road garden centre.

?Imaginative arrangements produced a blaze of floral delight from so many quarters. Many congratulations to all concerned. Well done, Newhaven.?

The award ceremony takes place on Sunday September 16 at 2pm when well deserved prizes will be awarded.

A garden centre spokesman said: ?Paradise Park Garden Centre is our original centre, first opening its doors to the public in 1989.

?Here, you will discover a large plant area and a knowledgeable team of friendly staff who will be able to help you find everything you need for your home and garden.

?The Sussex Garden Buildings Centre displays one of the largest selections of garden buildings in the region.?
