Regional Ruxley Rose winners announced

The regional winners of The Garden Centre Association?s (GCA) annual Ruxley Rose competition have recently (October 16, 2014) been announced.

The Ruxley Rose competition focuses specifically on GCA members? outdoor plant areas and recognises excellent quality and range of plants.

Iain Wylie, Chief Executive of the GCA, explained: ?We were really impressed with the high standard of our members? outdoor plant areas this year and we?d like to congratulate all of our regional winners.

?Coolings The Gardener?s Garden Centre in Kent won the Destination Garden Centre (DGC) category and Newbridge Nurseries in West Sussex the Garden Centre (GC) category in the South Thames region.

?In Wales and the West, Trelawney@Wadebridge in Cornwall (DGC) and The Old Railway Line Garden Centre in Powys (GC) came top. Essex-based Perrywood Garden Centre (DGC) and Meadow Croft Garden Centre (GC) won in North Thames.

The Ruxley Rose competition is regarded as one of the most prestigious awards. Each garden centre is inspected twice, once in the spring and again in early autumn. Fifty percent of the overall mark comes from the spring inspections and 50% from the second visit.

Iain added: ?The top scorers from our regional winners will now be judged nationally by Roger Crookes and the national winners in both the DGC and GC categories will be announced at our conference in January.?

The GCA represents nearly 200 garden centres nationwide.

Through sharing information and its inspection programme the GCA helps members to achieve high standards in customer service, plant quality and reliability.
