Following the decision to merge the HTA events team with the PR department,?Sam Kern, known to most as Sam Gunston, has opted for redundancy and left the HTA last week.
Chief executive, Carol Paris, explained that the HTA is becoming involved in more consumer events as a means of promoting the enjoyment of outdoor spaces and the lines between the departments had become increasingly blurred.
One example is the APL, a consumer facing brand under the HTA umbrella that promotes professional landscaping. It takes the HTA to flower shows such as Tatton Park and Hampton Court.
Another initiative is the HTA Marketing Board that seeks to promote the benefits of plants and gardens. Next spring it will be touring the country with the ?Love the Plot You?ve Got? road show, designed by the Edible Bus Stop, which shows how simple planting and decoration can transform a back yard.
The combined departments will be headed by Gill Ormrod, who steps up to communications manager having been the PR manager.
