Schoolchildren in Cambridgeshire cut the ribbon for Dobbies garden centre

SCHOOLCHILDREN with an eye for garden design were handed the honour of opening up a new business in Cambridgeshire.

Bar Hill Primary children Charlotte Dyson, Jasmine Murphy, Star Dalston, Jada Flatts, Chloe Proudfoot and AJ Debono were joint winners of a competition run by a garden centre after they dug deep into their imagination to design their own dream garden.

They cut the flower-decked crimson ribbon of Dobbies to declare it officially open on Friday.

The children secured their school a ?500 shopping spree for plant and gardening goodies. They also took part in a Little Seedlings workshop and got stuck into some digging and planting.

Chris Swales, general manager of the garden centre, which has Tesco as its neighbour, said he was “thrilled” the new store is open adding the feedback from their first customers has been “fantastic”.

He added: “We’re already looking forward to opening Santa’s grotto next month. It’s also been great to create a total of 14 new jobs for people who truly love plants, pets and shopping.”
