The second Autumn Edition of PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt will take place on 23 and 24 August 2023. A comprehensive fair with tens of thousands of metres of exhibition space, thousands of professional garden plant buyers as well as hundreds of stands of growers from home and abroad will form the backdrop for the event for the European garden plant trade. What can visitors expect?
Many new exhibitors ensuring a diverse and complete offering
At the fair, more than 200 (trade) nurseries with a wide range of garden plants and starting material, including many new, international exhibitors, will present themselves at their stands. 30 of them are growers whose products have not been shown at the fair before. This means the fair also has a lot of news to offer to regular visitors. In addition, more than 5,000 directly orderable sample lots will be available at the GROEN-Direkt Autumn Fair. The fair thus provides a complete overview of the readily available range of garden plants.

We highlight a few: Sjaak van Schie from Maasdijk is specialized in supplying high-quality Hydrangeas in various propagation stages: from cutting to finished product. Bailey Nurseries from St Paul, Minnesota (USA) offers a wide range of plants for retailers, growers and landscapers, from potted ornamental shrubs and perennials to their popular consumer brands. Piece of Jungle from Schipluiden grows colourful Caladium indoor plants. Eurovivai from Italy specialises in Acers and Azalea. In addition, a number of new German growers will present their assortment in a “German” alley.
Clear exhibition floor
By making a more compact arrangement of stands and samples as well as using all hall space for the fair, the fair organisation succeeded in creating a nice clear and spacious exhibition floor.
The centre axis divides the more than 20,000 sq m exhibition floor into two parts. One half provides space for direct-order plants, via GROEN-Direkt’s many thousands of sample lots.
In the other half, the hundreds of exhibitors are arranged on the PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt exhibition floor. This is also where the novelties and GROEN-Direkt’s Christmas tree presentation can be found. This way, plant buyers who have first made their rounds of the sample lots can continue their rounds of the stands, and vice versa.
Green Retail Awards
PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt is the event for European garden plant retail, and is the time to showcase the current garden plant range, novelties and recent developments to the trade. Novelties and innovation are very important for the sector. That is why PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt offers companies a platform with the Green Retail Awards to highlight innovations. Exhibitors and non-exhibitors who want to present a new concept or cultivar to a large audience can submit their product for the Green Retail Awards. There are three categories for which product can be submitted
- Visitor’s Favourite (chosen by trade visitors to the fair)
- Best Novelty (chosen by KBVC jury)
- Best Market Innovation (chosen by an international jury with experts and expertise in the trade channel).
This year, the jury for the Best Market Innovation consists of:
- Luc De Bruyne (jury chairman), Impact Creator at ympa and Co-founder of The Green Community (Belgium)
- Harald van Meurs, owner of AllGreen (Netherlands)
- Eric Lecouffe, garden plant product manager at Jardiland (France)
- Johanna Nordenskiöld, category manager garden plants at Plantagen (Sweden, Norway, Finland)
- Marcus Eyles, director of horticulture at Dobbies Garden Centres (England)
- Niels Feller, category manager outdoor living green at Intratuin (Netherlands)
- Brenda Horstra, deputy director of Tuinbranche Nederland
Signing up for Green Retail Award
Exhibitors of PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt and/or GROEN-Direkt’s sample fair can participate in all novelty inspections offered at that time.
The Best Novelty and Best Market Innovation judging is also open to non-participants of the fair. Judges in all categories will be organised during the Autumn Edition. Dozens of innovations and presentations
The Autumn edition is traditionally the time when growers introduce their new varieties and concepts. In 2023, too, we expect dozens of innovations at the fair. A selection of these will compete for the ‘Visitor’s Favourite’ and the fair visitors will decide which entry will be crowned with this Award.
New at the fair is the wall of fame. Here you will find all kinds of recent introductions.
Trend and green specialist Romeo Sommers will provide a number of inspiring presentations. These presentations can be seen at various places at the fair. The presentations will of course be accompanied by product information and a reference to where you can find the products at the fair.

A visit to PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt brings you right up to date with everything going on in the sector. You will meet the main growers from home and abroad, but also the smaller growers with sometimes surprising products. At GROEN-Direkt’s cart and layer fair, many thousands of samples in all shapes and sizes are on display, where you can place an order straight away. Besides the leading companies in the green sector, you will also find their suppliers and the companies behind the starting material. In addition, there is a selection of hardware suppliers for garden centres. Opening hours and location
On 23 and 24 August, PLANTARIUM|GROEN-Direkt will take place together with the GROEN-Direkt Autumn Fair at Noorwegenlaan 37 in Hazerswoude-Dorp. The fair will be open from 07:00 to 17:00 (on Thursday until 16:00).
