Six men from Manchester have been arrested following a burglary at Hayes Garden World in Ambleside this morning (Monday).
Police were called at 3.30am after a report of a ram-raid from the garden centre on Rothay Road.
On arrival, police located a safe and a window frame in the middle of the road outside Broadview Guest House.
It is believed that the rope attaching the safe to a vehicle snapped during the raid and the offenders made off.
Police say they stopped two Audi vehicles, each containing three men, around 20 minutes later on the A591. The six men, aged between 18 and 22, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary.
They are currently in police custody and are helping officers with their inquiries.
Detective Constable Jon Hill said: ?We are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the actual incident or any suspicious behaviour in the area.
?We appreciate that it would have been dark and most people may have been asleep but any information, no matter how insignificant you may deem it, could help assist with our enquiries.?
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101 and ask to speak to DC Jon Hill.
