Suspected arson attack fire at Holland garden centre in Bromley Cross

A garden centre centre went up in flames in a suspected arson attack.

Fire crews were called to the blaze at Holland Garden Centre in Bromley Cross at about 9.45pm last night.

Plants and gardening stock were destroyed by the fire, which is believed to have been started deliberately.

Police and the fire service have now launched an investigation.

It is understood the culprits broke into the building in Darwen Road before setting it on fire.

Crew manager Gary Charnock, from Bolton North fire station, said: “When we arrived on the scene, the fire was already quite substantial.

“We managesd to contain the fire to the external area adjacent to the main garden centre.

“Plants and stock stored on pallets was destroyed and there was smoke damage throughout the rest of the building.

“We are treating this as a deliberate fire.”

A police spokesman added: “A joint investigation has been launched into this incident.”
