Suttons Seeds form partnership with Armed Forces charity

Suttons Seeds have revealed a special partnership with Armed Forces charity SSAFA.

The Devon-based gardening experts, have launched one-off packs of field poppy seeds to commemorate the World War One Centenary in recognition of the sacrifice made by over 800,000 men who lost their lives.

Gardeners who purchase the packets of seeds will have the chance to sow their own poppy memorials and at the same time raise money for SSAFA, the UK?s oldest national military charity.

For each ?1.99 packet sold, a donation of ?1 will be made to SSAFA. Proceeds from the sales of the seeds will be used to help continue the work carried out by over 6,000 SSAFA volunteers across the UK, who provide face-to-face practical, emotional and financial support for current serving, veterans and their families.

SSAFA has been providing welfare support to our Forces and their families for 130 years and is the only national military charity that was operating at the outbreak of World War One and is still in existence today.

In 1914 alone, over one million families on the Home Front were helped while their men went off to war. Today SSAFA provides practical, financial and emotional support to 55,000 members of the Armed Forces community every year.

Deborah Easlick, director of fundraising at SSAFA, said: ?SSAFA is incredibly thankful to Suttons Seeds for allowing us to benefit from this special tribute.

?The partnership is one that we hope will resonate with people around the country.? Sowing just one packet of poppy seeds will allow people to show their respects to those who lost their lives over 100 years ago, whilst also showing their support for those who are dealing with the impact of serving in more recent conflicts, as well as their families.?

Devon Branch chairman for SSAFA, Robin Chambers, who was instrumental in setting up the nationwide initiative, said: ?We are honoured to be involved in this wonderful commemorative project in partnership with Suttons Seeds.

?SSAFA was the only national military charity who served during World War One that is still going strong today.?
